We are moving from a Facebook group to a community at http://polymathica.network-maker.com (will become Polymathica.com) and a pdf weekly magazine The Polymath. I have discovered from several years of experience that when people in the upper 5% of the population in intellectual sophistication are invited to join us, about 7% do. That means that simply by inviting them all, we will have 1.2 billion X 5% X 7% = 4.2 million Polymathicans.
We can accomplish this and, because of 'six degrees of separation' and the tendency of Polymathicans to engage in 'birds of a feather' behavior, grow organically. In fact, if we average 2 new Polymathicans from each new Polymathican with an average turnover of one month, beginning with our current list of 800 or so, we can get there in under one year.
Month New Polymathicans Total Polymathicans
Zero 800 800
One 1,600 2,400
Two 3,200 5,600
Three 6,400 12,000
Four 12,800 24,800
Five 25,600 50,400
Six 51,200 101,600
Seven 102,400 204,000
Eight 204,600 408,600
Nine 409,200 817,800
Ten 818,400 1,636,200
Eleven 1,636,800 3,273,000
Of course, any strategy based upon every new Polymathican bringing in two new Polymathicans is unrealistic. Pareto applies. That means that of the 20 new Polymathicans that 10 new polymathicans bring in, 16 will be brought in by 2 Polymathicans and the remaining 8 new Polymathicans will bring in a total of just 4. In other words, 4 Polymathicans will bring in no new Polymathicans and 4 will bring in 1 Polymathican. That means that of the 4,200,000 Polymathicans, 2,520,000 will bring in no new Polymathicans and 840,000 will bring in 1 Polymathican each and the remaining 840,000 will bring in an average of 4 each.
However, the 840,000 Polymathicans who bring in 3,360,000 Polymathicans will also distribute according to Pareto. So, 840,000X80%=672,000 will bring in 3,360,000X20%=672,000 for an average of 1 Polymathican. The remaining 840,000X20%=168,000 will bring in 3,360,000X80%=2,268,000 for an average of 16 Polymathicans.
So, our success in building Polymathica quickly will be the result of motivating and deploying this 4% who are more than passively interested in Polymathica. However, even here, Pareto applies. Of the 2,268,000 Polymathicans that they bring in, 2,268,000X20%=453,600 will be brought in by 168,000X80%=134,400 for an average of 3.4 Polymathicans. The remaining 2,268,000X80%=1,814,400 will be brought in by 168,000X20%=33,600 for an average of 54 Polymathicans.
So, to summarize
2,520,000 Polymathicans will bring in no Polymathicans
1,512,000 Polymathicans will bring in 1 Polymathican each
134,400 Polymathicans will bring in 3.4 Polymathicans on average
33,600 Polymathicans will bring in 54 Polymathicans on average.
So, success is primarily based upon the commitment and follow through of just 0.8% of the Polymathicans and these will be Members of the Polymathic Institute and its Enterprise Network. They will be growing Polymathica for professional reasons and will benefit in career and income from their efforts.
We will have professional group administrators to our Polymathica groups. I have stated that they need to bring in 720 Polymathicans over two years. However, as we see from the above, they will actually bring in, on average, about 54 Polymathicans and then will encourage those they bring in to bring in more Polymathicans. This is part of what makes the organic growth strategy work.
It is surprising how much encouragement Members need in order to invite others to become Polymathicans. Often, the request is something that Polymathicans are willing to do, but not at the time that they read the request. Later, they get busy and forget. So, repeated reminders are not an annoyance, but actually may be precisely what they want.
Polymathicans generally fall outside of the mainstream in attitudes, abilities and interests. Consequently, we are often among the inappropriately excluded. Even when we manage to overcome the problems of a polymathic personality type and forge a successful career, we still often feel a bit like society isn't really constructed for us. So, Polymathica and The Polymathic Institute are more than just a social outlet. When we complete it, it can be a major tool in providing polymathic lifestyle options. Polymathicans can be your readers, your customers, your investors, your collaborators, your strategic partners and your friends.
I encourage anyone reading this who is not registered at Polymathica.network-maker.com or subscribing to The Polymath to do so. Members of Polymathica.network-maker.com will also receive The Polymath so, for most people, it is a better option.
